Thomas Corbett, Governor

Tired of seeing trash, litter and refuse in our lovely township? Join us in cleaning it up!

FIFTH ANNUAL
Tidy Up Tredyffrin 5th Annual Spring Clean Up Days:

Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 21, 2012   9 AM - 3 PM

  • Pick your own clean up location or ask for an assignment
  • Supplies (work gloves, trash bags and safety vests) delivered to your door the week prior to Tidy Up Days.
  • A terrific public service project for kids!

Whether you're an individual or part of a group, and even if you only have 1 hour to spare, you can make a difference. As you know, there is no one “assigned” to litter control in Tredyffrin; it’s up to volunteers to keep our community clean. Every little bit helps!

"Litter-known" Facts:

Motorists and pedestrians are often blamed for litter. There are actually seven primary sources. Here they are in order of magnitude:

  1. household trash handling and its placement at the curb for collection
  2. dumpsters used by businesses
  3. loading docks
  4. construction and demolition sites
  5. trucks with uncovered loads
  6. pedestrians
  7. motorists

Litter is blown about by wind and traffic or carried by water. It moves until trapped by a curb, building or fence. Once litter has accumulated, it invites people to add more*.

SAFETY FIRST!

  • Wear gloves, long sleeves, long pants and a hat to guard against poison ivy. Wear sunscreen and bug repellant. Shower and wash arms, hands, legs and face thoroughly in HOT water as soon as you're done with the cleanup!
  • Don't open any containers of liquids, just discard them,
  • Watch for traffic! Stay on shoulders and grassy areas as much as possible, ASK ME for traffic cones or signs if needed,
  • Report to me the location of anything either too large to remove or questionable/ hazardous (appliances, tires, etc.)

Tidy Up Tredyffrin is part of an ambitious statewide effort to remove litter and trash from Pennsylvania's roadways, parks, forests, riverbanks, neighborhoods, and open spaces.

How it works:
* You tell me what area you would like to clean up
             OR
* I can assign you a route
* Based on your group’s headcount I will deliver supplies some time the week before a cleanup

People litter because:

They feel no sense of ownership, even though areas such as parks and beaches are public property.

They believe someone else—a park maintenance or highway worker—will pick up after them.

Litter already has accumulated*

Do your part ... Help us prevent litter in our community!
